One of the ways to obtain a residence permit in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is to purchase real estate. Buying an apartment in Northern Cyprus gives the right to obtain health insurance, open bank accounts and to enroll kids in kindergartens and schools.

Obtaining a residence permit is a simple procedure, local authorities are interested in foreign investment, therefore, they have simplified the procedure as much as possible. The government is friendly to foreign citizens who decide to buy real estate in Northern Cyprus.

Border crossing rules

Foreign citizens can stay on the territory of the republic up to 90 days in 6 months. If you plan to stay longer, you must obtain a residence permit.

How to get a residence permit

A residence permit registration now takes longer as there are many people interested in relocating to the island. When purchasing property in Northern Cyprus, you must submit documents to a local immigration police department:

• Foreign passport.
• Original of a sales agreement and its copy.
• A certificate from a local administration department  stating that you are actually living in the stated property. The certificate cost is about 50-100 liras.
• Proof of funds
• 2 photo
• Criminal record
• If there are children and a spouse – birth certificates of children and marriage certificate, which must be translated into Turkish and certified by a local notary, that is, the translation is best to be done in Northern Cyprus

When purchasing a home, all family members receive residence permit.

The permit does not give the right to work and conduct business – other permits are needed for this.

To obtain a residence permit one must have a medical examination: general blood test and fluorography (the address of a clinic will be appointed by a website system). The results are sent to the corresponding department by the clinic itself. Then the documents are transferred to the immigration department in Lefkosa. The permit is valid for one year, the same documents should be provided to the police department at least 30 days before its expiration date to receive a new one.

Children under 18 do not need a residence permit. Their information is added to the parent`s online page.

After 10 years of living in the country, one can apply for citizenship.
