Do you need a visa for North Cyprus?

Planning a trip to Northern Cyprus and wondering if you need a visa – this article is for you!

Citizens of most countries do not need a visa. Only holders of Armenian, Nigerian and Syrian passports need to obtain a visa of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the country’s representative offices.

A tourist visa for Northern Cyprus (a stamp with a prescribed number of days) is placed upon arrival in the country.

Stamps are not put on the border of Southern and Northern Cyprus, so if you are traveling to the Turkish part of Cyprus through Europe, do not forget to ask the border guard for how many days you were given a visa.

Usually a tourist visa is issued for 30 days, after which you must either leave the country, or apply for a residence permit, or extend the tourist visa for another month.

To extend it, you will need to show a long-term rental contract to the Ministry of Interior in Lefkosa. You can contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs only on weekdays from 10 to 12.

You can stay on a tourist visa for 90 days within six months.

Penalties for illegal presence in the territory are far from humane: 625 Turkish liras for each overdue day.

For those who arrive in Northern Cyprus at Ercan Airport, we recommend not to put the stamp of Northern Cyprus on a separate blank (they are usually next the border guard).

Such a precaution will help in the future to avoid problems with obtaining a Greek Schengen visa, as well as a visa for South Cyprus. There will be no problems with the rest of the countries, even despite the presence of the stamp of Northern Cyprus in the passport.
