The beginning of the school year in Northern Cyprus

10 September

On Monday, 13 September, the new school year begins in the TRNC in primary schools and on 14 September in secondary and vocational schools. In addition, the Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu announced that the start of the autumn semester in higher education is scheduled for early October.

At the beginning of the school year, the Ministry of Health issued new instructions to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • If a teacher, employee, or student has symptoms of COVID-19, they are not allowed into school and sent for testing;
  • If the result of the COVID-19 PCR test is positive for one student, all students in the class and teachers will be sent for testing and isolated pending PCR test results.
  • If the COVID-19 PCR test results are positive for three pupils or more, students in the class are considered contact persons. They will be isolated at home for seven days with a vaccination certificate or ten without a certificate.
  • If the COVID-19 PCR test result is positive for the teacher, students of all classes where the teacher teaches will be sent for testing and isolated pending PCR test results.
  • During the period of isolation of pupils or teachers, education will take place remotely, online.
  • The only way to return to school is to receive a negative PCR test.
