Northern Cyprus Airport

29 می 2023

Ercan Airport is the air gateway of Northern Cyprus.

And if you are going to fly to Northern Cyprus, Ercan Airport will be your destination.

This is the only airport in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is located 17 km from the capital Nicosia. Due to the fact that the TRNC is recognized only by Turkey, flights to Northern Cyprus are carried out with intermediate transfers at Turkish airports.

For holders of an EU passport/Schengen visa who want to travel to Northern Cyprus, the airport of arrival may be Paphos or Larnaca, located in Southern Cyprus. Then you can cross the border into Northern Cyprus without any problems. As a reminder, you will not be able to fly to Northern Cyprus and get to Southern Cyprus, as this will be considered a violation of the borders. Therefore, remember a simple rule – in which country you arrive, from that country you must fly out.

The government plans include the commissioning of a new airport in Northern Cyprus. The new terminal has already been built and will increase the capacity from 4 million to 7 million passengers per year. And if international flights are added, then up to 10 million passengers can be expected annually.

The area of the terminal and runways will be 7,800,000 square meters (equal to 1,000 football fields), which is 6 times the size of the existing airport. Two new runways with a length of 3200 m will allow servicing all models of passenger aircraft.

In total, up to 30 aircraft will be able to park at the new airport in Northern Cyprus, 60 check-in counters and 44 passport control points will be available for passengers.
